The Sovereignty of God

There has been much discussion concerning the sovereignty of God vs. Freewill, and I was asked to give my understanding on a Christian Discussion Forum. My understanding of God's sovereignty is that He sees the end from the begining, and knows what makes each of us tick. He would not bring creatures into existence if He knew their final destination would be a Hell of Eternal Torment. Also, there is no rational reason to choose eternal torment over endless joy, especially if good is better then evil, and God is all good, and deserving of all our love (as all Christians believe.) I believe the subject of freewill vs. God's sovereignty is a red herring. Those who believe in eternal torment use freewill as an argument against a sovreign God achieving His stated purpose, and some of those who believe in Universal Salvation fall into the trap of arguing that freewill doesn't exist. I think this simply distracts both parties from the real issues. If you haven't alredy read it, I recommend Tom Talbott's article on
"The Essential Role of Freewill in Universal Reconciliation."

God bless.
