Moral Issues (by Don Hiers)

The values/morals of politicians...last year, this was one of the front page headlines of the Index-Journal: "Politics, Faith collide!" For months, candidates for President of the United States were going around the country debating each other and answering questions from the people, and there was much talk about values/morals.

In the past forty years or so, there have been two overwhelming values/moral issues before the American people. Those issues are homosexuality and abortion. Both involve matters of life and death; AIDS and the killing of little human beings. Fact: Everyday, Monday through Friday, over 4,000 babies are killed! Fact: Only 1% of those killings are performed as a result of rape or incest. The vast majority of abortions are done only
for 'personal' reasons!

There are leaders of our nation who would rather talk about other 'so-called values' such as 'global warming,' or 'money issues/jobs'. This is like comparing apples to oranges. An analogy: Recklessly driving a vehicle while drunk (endangering the life of the occupant and anyone else on the road) or parking in a handicap space are both illegal. However, the first involves matters of life and death and the penalty could result in the loss of driving privileges. The parking offense only requires a small fine.

For this article, let me focus on homosexual issues. One of our country's two major political parties, whose eight candidates are seeking the 2008 nomination for president, has publicly stated it's unflinching support for the homosexual (sodomy) agenda.

First and foremost, this party's candidates said they favor overriding the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), the 1996 law passed by Congress and signed into law by a member of their own party. DOMA says that, for federal purposes, the word 'marriage' means a legal union between one man and one woman as husband and wife...and the word 'spouse' refers only to a person of the opposite sex who is a husband or a wife.

Democrats demand that it be overturned! Beyond the gutting of DOMA, this party's entire field of candidates support putting sodomites on the same legal footing as married couples. This includes equal tax treatment, domestic partner benefits, and expanding the Family and Medical Leave Act to cover sodomite partners. A side note; this would tremendously increase the already heavy tax load on all taxpayers. In addition, all the Democratic candidates favor repeal of the ban on sodomites in the military and also favor including detailed information about homosexual acts in comprehensive school sex education classes. Finally, two of this party's candidates favor legalizing same-sex marriage nationwide.

In the days of Sodom and Gomorrah, the leadership of those cities probably had their own personal politics/faith beliefs. Most likely, they believed that politics/government and religion/morals didn't mix. If there had been elections, the citizens, because of their wickedness and apathy, would have voted in favor of the sodomite agenda found among them. Obviously, God disagreed. He hated sodomy so much that He destroyed those cities by burning them to the ground.

The most corrupting force in America today are lukewarm/apathetic Christians who leave God's moral absolutes out of the voting booth. Their pocketbooks take precedent over God's Principles.

It is a political necessity that a candidate promise as much as he can to the people to gain their vote. Tax breaks, entitlements, benefits, and eliminating the deficit are just a few examples. However, if the abortion and homosexual agendas have him in their back pocket, he should automatically lose the vote of a committed follower of Christ. In the day of judgement and the giving of rewards, God will not be the least bit interested in anything having to do with money/jobs/benefits/entitlements/taxes. He will want to know if I stood for His Principles and obeyed His Commandments. Did I try to protect His unborn children and did I stand against the evil of sodomy?

Quotation: A single drop of water does not feel responsible for the flood. Translation: The greatest flood of iniquity, perversion, evil, and abomination ever seen in the history of the world is happening today in our country. The wise Christian voter knows which candidate most closely stands for God's moral absolutes. But, behind the curtain in the voting booth, he might allow political pressures from national organizations such as unions or propaganda from individuals to control his thinking, his emotions, and his vote. In matters pertaining to God's absolutes, he believes that his one vote in that direction wouldn't matter anyway.

For the mature Christian voter, it is critical that he use his God-given wisdom in making 'Faith honoring' choices about our country's leadership. Voting is an opportunity to Honor God in the public square and let the world know that His Commandments and Principles still matter in an increasingly pagan society.

Editor's Note: Another moral issue of life and death involves Iran's nuclear arms program, and American voters should be aware of the extreme views held by that nation's president.

Here are some quotes from a speech Ahmadinejad gave in Tehran:

[Ahmadinejad: Referendum on transfer of Israel to Europe ] Iranian leader says during Jerusalem Day
rally in Tehran, 'Let a referendum be held in Palestine on the transfer of Zionists to Europe, Canada or Alaska.' Adds: Israel committed crimes under pretext of the Holocaust...
